**Singapore Esplanade**







The Esplanade – Theatres on the bay was opened in 12 October 2002 to further move towards Singapore’s ambition to become a tourist and arts hub. It strives to be internationally recognized for its creativity and set standards to position itself as a world leader in the arts. The Singapore government also hopes that by doing this more emphasis will be made on the arts and that more people will appreciate and support the art culture. This will help to build up and arts centre in Singapore and move even closer to be seen as an arts hub in the eyes of the world. The Esplanade also gives opportunities for wider varieties of entertainment to be carried out. This will also give local producers a chance to showcase their works to the local population. Many works of art are also displayed there which include sculptures and many other pieces of art.

This arts centre comprises of a concert hall able to sit, a theatre and recital, theatre, rehearsal studios, outdoor performing spaces. The esplanade offers a variety of performances - from musicals to dance to theatre. There are outdoor performances as well as lunchtime concerts. There is also a mall next to the Esplanade which offers a very diverse retail mix. Besides that, almost 1,000 shops, 300 restaurants and 150 bars are in its immediate vicinity.
